Join the Lloyd Center for an exciting summer outdoors! Animal collection, habitat investigations, and fishing are just a few of the activities offered through the 2014 summer programs. In its 33rd season, the Lloyd Center’s Summer Programs are designed to give motivated students an opportunity to explore different aspects of environmental science.

All sessions include field study, laboratory work, and fun!

COASTAL ECOLOGYeducation-summer-cs

4th – 6th Grades

June 30th – July 3rd, (4 days, Monday – Thursday)

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Members: $250   Non-members: $300

Discover the amazing relationships between marine organisms and coastal environments. We will spend our days exploring muddy salt marshes, sandy beaches, rocky shores, estuaries and more. Firsthand observation of creatures and watery fun make this program a great way to kick off the summer!

 

FRESHWATER WETLANDSeducation-fw-welands

3rd – 5th grades

July 7th – 11th (Monday – Friday)

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Members: $275    Non-members: $325

Explore the area’s ponds, swamps, marshes, and rivers in this 5 day hands-on course. We will collect wetland creatures; learn to build terrariums and even set-up tanks. Don’t be afraid to get wet and muddy!

4th – 6th grades

July 14th -18th (Monday – Friday)

9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

The mammals and birds of our coast are amazing! These warm-blooded animals have unique adaptations for survival in their salty world. Come explore the beaches looking for coastal birds and discover which land mammals roam the beaches, day and night. Climb aboard and embark on a marine mammal cruise to see these amazing creatures close up!

CREATURES OF THE NIGHTkoko

5th- 8th grades

July 21st – 24th (4 nights, Monday – Thursday)

5:00 p.m.– 9:00 p.m.

Come explore the Lloyd Center at night! We’ll look for signs of nocturnal animals, discover how these animals navigate, identify constellations and find out what’s glowing in the water.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDEwalk-wild-side

July 28th – August 1st (Monday – Friday)

9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Join us at the Lloyd Center and investigate the creatures that live in the local forests and coastal environments. While exploring these habitats we will search for tiny insects, seek amphibians, listen for birds, and look for evidence of mammal activity. Are you ready to take a Walk on the Wild Side?

August 4th -8th (Monday – Friday)

9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Members: $300 Non-members: $350

Come explore the ocean and coastal ecosystems. Discover amazing adaptations of sea creatures, large and small. Collect live animals from the ocean while beachcombing. Visit an aquarium for first-hand observations of incredible creatures.
