Coastal Studies 2015

Join us in exploring 82 acres of maritime forest. We will learn what plants make up the forest, search for insects, seek out amphibians, listen for birds and look for evidence of mammals. Get ready for a forest adventure!

Join the Lloyd Center for an exciting summer outdoors! Animal collection, habitat investigations, and fishing are just a few of the activities offered through the 2015 summer programs. In its 34th season, the Lloyd Center’s Summer Programs are designed to give motivated students an opportunity to explore different aspects of environmental science.

All sessions include field study, laboratory work, and fun!

Play with science?! Participate in experiments that are as much fun as they are fascinating. Learn the bright secrets behind glow sticks. Make a bizarre substance called oobleck! Become a mad scientist this summer and uncover the science in the world around you.

The next two programs are complementary! Students can attend “Our Changing Planet” or “Cool Solutions…”, but those entering 5th and 6th grades are encouraged to participate in both for a fuller experience.

Curious about climate change? We will discover just what “climate change” means through fun hands-on experiments. Become familiar with the science behind this global phenomenon, the connections we share with planet Earth, and get inspired for action!

Concerned about our changing planet?  Passionate about the environment?  Join us for an exciting and empowering week of field trips, discussions, and team-building activities.  Discover ways in which climate change could affect your community – local beaches, urban areas, wetlands, and more – and become a part of the solution!

July 20th – July 24th (Monday – Friday)

9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Members: $275  Non-members: $325

Explore the area’s ponds, marshes and vernal pools in this hands-on course. We will get wet and muddy while collecting wetland creatures and venturing through marshes. Learn how to build terrariums and set up tanks!

The next two programs are complementary! Students can attend either Marine Biology week but those entering 6th and 7th grades are encouraged to participate in both for a fuller experience.

Discover the amazing relationships between marine organisms and coastal environments. We will spend our days exploring muddy salt marshes, sandy beaches, rocky shores, estuaries and more. First-hand observation of creatures and watery fun make this program great!

Come explore the ocean and coastal ecosystems, Discover amazing adaptations of sea creatures, large and small. Collect live animals from the ocean while beachcombing. Visit an aquarium for first-hand observations of incredible creatures!
