Join the Lloyd Center for an exciting summer outdoors! Animal collection, habitat investigations, and fishing are just a few of the activities offered through the 2016 summer programs. In its 36th season, the Lloyd Center’s Summer Programs are designed to give motivated students an opportunity to explore different aspects of environmental science.

All sessions include field study, laboratory work, and fun!

COASTAL ECOLOGY

4th – 6th Grades

June 29th – 30th (Thursday & Friday) and July 5th- 7th (Wednesday – Friday)

Discover the amazing relationships between marine organisms and coastal environments. We will spend our days exploring muddy salt marshes, sandy beaches, rocky shores, estuaries and more. Collection, observation and adventures await!

FORESTS AND WETLANDS

3rd – 5th Grades

July 10th –14th

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Join us this summer in exploring the area’s ponds, wetlands and forests. We’ll get wet and muddy while venturing into wetland environments and looking for the creatures that live there. We will explore the Lloyd Center’s forest and discover the animals that call it home. Learn how to set up tanks and terrariums!

TIDAL SURGE: THE OCEAN AND CLIMATE CHANGE

6th – 8th Grades

July 24th – 28th

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Passionate about the ocean and its creatures?  Curious about the relationship between climate change and our seas? Join us for a saltwater-drenched week of field trips, discussions, experiments and more. Discover the ways in which climate change can affect local coastal habitats… and become part of the solution!

FRESHWATER WETLANDS

4th – 6th Grades

July 31st – August 4th

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Come get wet and muddy as we explore the area’s ponds, marshes and vernal pools. Wading into this unique environment, you will discover fascinating plants and cool critters. This is a hands-on adventure as we collect and observe creatures of this important habitat!

WILD WORLD OF WEATHER

3rd – 5th Grades

August 7th – 11th

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

What is weather? Learn the shocking truth behind lightning, and what is really at the end of a rainbow. Participate in experiments that show the forces behind hurricanes and tornados. Discover how we harness the power of wind for our everyday life. Join us in learning how the weather affects you!

MARINE BIOLOGY

Come explore the ocean and coastal ecosystems. Discover amazing adaptations of sea creatures, large and small. Collect live animals from the ocean while beachcombing.
First-hand observation of creatures and marine fun make this program great!
