Come and make a shell wreath to hang in your home, or to give as a gift. Don’t know how? Joanne will teach you! In addition to supplies provided, feel free to bring your own beach treasures to add to the wreath.

Course Code: BOT3211 Knowing some trees allows you to fully enjoy any walk in the woods. This course will introduce you to common conifers and broadleaf trees of southern New England, and show you how to recognize them using basic tree keys (bark, buds, and leaves) and field guides.
We’ll “talk the talk” with an illustrated introduction, then get outside to “walk the walk” and practice tree ID on the trail.

MUSEUM INSTITUTE FOR TEACHING SCIENCE 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Lloyd Center Headquarters, Whaling Museum, Buttonwood Park Zoo, MA Audubon Society, Stony Brook.
Members and Non-Members: $75. Registration required.
A two-week teacher workshop to help the region’s teachers become more familiar with scientific concepts and the scientific inquiry process.
The Lloyd Center will partner with The Whaling Museum in New Bedford, Buttonwood Park Zoo, and MA Audubon Society, Stony Brook.
Teachers will spend a minimum of 2 days at each site, participating in hands-on activities they can bring back to their classroom.

As you begin to learn the forms, growing habits, and garden uses of native ferns, you will also become acquainted with the fern life cycle and identification characteristics. BIRDING ON MONOMOY ISLAND
Members: $32, Non-Members: $40. Registration required.
Meeting place: Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot, Route 6, Dartmouth

Enjoy a day of birding on Monomoy Island, Massachusetts’ National Wildlife Refuge! Most migrating shorebirds that travel the Atlantic “flyway” stop over on Monomoy, making it one of our area’s greatest birding sites. You may see Godwits, Whimbrels, Dowitchers, Glossy Ibises, Oyster-catchers, Black Skimmers, Roseate Terns and many more.
Transportation provided. Bring a lunch, your binoculars (if possible) and footwear that you won’t mind getting wet. Great trip for experienced and novice birders alike.

3rd ANNUAL SLOCUM RIVER REGATTA
Meeting Place: Demarest Lloyd State Park
This event is open to more than 15 different classes that include single and double racing sculls, recreational rowing crafts, whaleboats, kayaks, and canoes, all in men’s, women’s and mixed categories.
The emphasis of the Regatta is on good fun and enjoyment of the scenic Slocum River. A post-race light lunch and awards ceremonies will follow the race. More information soon; click here for 2007 info.

Join Research Director, Mark Mello, for this annual fall foliage tour on one of the most aesthetic rivers in eastern Massachusetts. You'll canoe the Taunton River and the portion of the Nemasket River where it flows into the Taunton.
Transportation and all equipment will be provided. Bring footwear that you won’t mind getting wet, as well as a lunch and drink (non-alcoholic). The fall leaves should be very colorful!
