MUSEUM INSTITUTE FOR TEACHING SCIENCE (MITS) WORKSHOP: Inquiry-Based Science: Investigating Water & Energy Concepts in the State Frameworks - for kindergarten through 8th grade teachers.
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

One Educator: $250. Two educators from the same school or school district: $225. Three or more educators from the same school or school district: $200.
PDP’s provided and graduate credit is available for an additional fee.

Locations: Lloyd Center Headquarters, Whaling Museum, Buttonwood Park Zoo, MA Audubon Society, Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary.

Southeastern Massachusetts is located on Buzzards Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Our history has been dependent upon and shaped by our connection with water. Join us as we discover the natural history of the estuary and a diversity of freshwater resources. Investigate the various species that live here, how they are adapted to survive in a marine or aquatic environment and how we are connected to these invaluable resources.

We will utilize these significant natural resources to create an inquiry-based program that will highlight the many forms of water and energy that cycle through the region. Explore the importance of water conservation and its effects on local habitats; including specific ways your students can work to preserve the earth’s most valuable resources. Investigate how we can capture energy for ourselves using solar, wind and water power. Examine the unceasing energy transfer within food chains and food webs. Learn about the changing forms of energy, including how energy (and water) create and transform weather and climate.

Discover just how engaging these educational activities can be while you learn content and inquiry-based, hands-on, minds-on teaching skills and seamlessly connect curriculum to the state frameworks.

Regional partners include: New Bedford Whaling Museum, Buttonwood Park Zoo, Lloyd Center for the Environment and Mass Audubon’s Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary.

For more information or to register contact MITS at 617-328-1515 or visit www.mits.org.
