A Musical, Fun Day Was Had by All At the Lloyd Center!

On Sunday, September 26th, the Lloyd Center for the Environment held their Inaugural Music in the Woods event, a new free benefit for Lloyd Center Members. Both members, and the general public, came out to enjoy a very musical afternoon on the Center’s trails and grounds, and what a wonderful afternoon it was!
In fact, we couldn’t say it better than to quote an email received by Music in the Woods Steering Committee Member, Sally Johnston:
“What an extraordinary event you conceived of and organized and realized! It was an enchanting experience to walk through those beautiful woods at the Lloyd Center and come upon such varied and beautiful music. There was also a great community feeling and good food, too. I hope you are very pleased with how it all unfolded. All the people involved in the Lloyd Center Music in the Woods event – the staff, volunteers, food providers – were so gracious and helpful. The musicians were talented and enthusiastic and very responsive to all our questions about their music. We, and everyone else there today, are very grateful to you for this wonderful day! May Music at the Lloyd Center become a yearly tradition. With so much appreciation, gratitude, and affection,” Sasha Lauterbach and Peter Sturges.
On the Center’s Old Cart Path was New Bedford Symphony Orchestra’s Ethan Wood on violin, and Anna Griffis on viola. The two played a collection of classical, tango, and Celtic tunes. Also from the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, was Peter Zay on cello, and Travis Rapoza on violin, performing a collection of classical and popular favorites on the Hardscrabble Farm Loop Trail.

The Spindle Rock River Rats performed an eclectic blend of bluegrass, old-time, folk, popular, western, and fiddle tunes on the Bond Building patio.
Children of all ages had a great time listening to Jeff Angeley and Southcoast Lessons’ Youth String Band with an “Old Time Fiddle Session” taking place at the Center’s Teaching Pavilion located on the path to the estuary.
In addition to enjoying a relaxing day of music on the trails, participants were refreshed with delicious lobster rolls, burgers, clam cakes, and treats from the Oxcart, of Oxford Creamery in Mattapoisett.
The Lloyd Center would like to thank the amazing artists that donated their time and musical talents to the Center’s Inaugural Music in the Woods event. The Center would also like to thank the wonderful volunteers that came out to help in making the Inaugural Music in the Woods a huge success.
