Paskamansett Bird Club Late Summer Bird Walk at the Lloyd Center

The Lloyd Center has a close historical connection to the Paskamansett Bird Club (PBC), and we are happy to again to partner with the PBC for its walk series at the Lloyd Center property. Our 82 acres offer a varied landscape “where Land meets Sea” (our historical slogan) including both forest and wetland habitats.
In mid-September, forest sightings may include initial migrating warblers, although waterbirds are likely the lead attraction. Egrets and shorebirds are gathering for migration in the tidal flats and salt marsh, Ospreys are fishing or perched at platforms, and with luck a Bald Eagle is soaring overhead. Come see our avian diversity to close out summer!
Birding stops include the Center's main facility feeder station and observatory, waterfront pier, salt marsh, open areas near lot and forest edge, and wooded trail system. For those new to the property, be prepared for some hilly terrain and possibly damp sections.
Recommended: Bring bug spray as mosquitoes may be active, depending upon weather conditions.

Great-Horned Owls nest during winter starting their territoriality, while saw-whet owls may pass through during fall migration. Screech and Barred Owls nest toward spring but also exhibit territorial behavior during the colder months. Visit the Lloyd Center on a fall evening to see “whoo” lurks!

| Lloyd Center Evening Shorebird Migration Stroll at West Island (August 5, 2026)
The Lloyd Center first began managing Piping Plovers at West Island in 2024, but has a long history of prior surveys at West Island Marsh. In addition to the beach which has nesting Piping Plovers, and periodically Least Terns that linger during migration, the marsh may have large numbers of waterbirds congregating from many groups. Especially at lower tides, shorebirds and waders can number in the hundreds, with waterfowl, gulls, terns, and ospreys also possible sightings. Come learn about both the nesting and migratory bird species at this unique site. | Wednesday Bird Walk at the Lloyd Center (August 5, 2026)
The Lloyd Center property has a diversity of habitats that attract birds year-round. These include a mixed forest interior (predominantly oak-hickory/with interspersed evergreens), wetlands (red maple swamp, vernal pools, estuary, salt marsh), forest edge, and butterfly gardens. This intricate landscape supports most bird groups depending upon the season including breeders, migrants, and overwintering species. Birding locations include the trail system, the Center’s waterfront pier, Lloyd Woods bordering the Little River salt marsh and estuary, and parking areas near forest edges and butterfly vegetation. Participants will also visit our main facility feeder station and upstairs observatory overlooking the Slocum River with views of Demarest Lloyd State Park, Mishaum Point, and the Elizabeth Island chain on a clear day. Items to bring/notes: camera, binoculars, hiking footwear. Terrain difficulty is easy to moderate (some hilly terrain). Pre-register online.
