Coastal Studies - Summer 2020

For students entering grades 3-8

Join the Lloyd Center for an exciting summer outdoors! Animal collection, habitat investigations, and fishing are just a few of the activities offered through the 2020 Summer Programs. In its 39th season, the Lloyd Center’s Summer Programs are designed to give motivated students an opportunity to explore different aspects of environmental science.

All sessions include field study, laboratory work, and fun!

FRESHWATER WETLANDS

3rd – 5th Grades

July 13 – July 17,  Monday - Friday

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Members $325 Non-members $375

Enjoy the various ponds, marshes, and vernal pools of our local watershed in this hands-on course. We will have fun in the mud while identifying wetland plants, and searching for the animals that call these wetlands their home. Start the summer off with an adventure!

GREEN MACHINES

4th – 6th Grades

July 20 – July 24, Monday - Friday

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Are you passionate about taking care of our planet? Come join us for a week filled with conservation fun! Hunt for nature's invaders, harness the power of wind and water, and much more! Adventures to various types of habitats, designing your own wind turbine, and composting, make this program an unforgettable learning experience for future environmental scientists. Go Green!

MARINE BIOLOGY

5th – 8th Grades

July 27 - July 31, Monday - Friday

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Come join us as we explore the lush local estuarine and beach ecosystems! Collect live animals from the ocean while beach-combing. Observe various adaptations coastal organisms use to survive and thrive. First-hand observation of creatures and marine fun make this program a splash!

COLD BLOODED CRUSADE

3rd – 5th Grades

August 3 – August 7, Monday - Friday

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Have a cool summer with cold-blooded creatures! Join the Lloyd Center staff while we hunt for herps. Learn how snakes, turtles, and frogs stay cool in the summer heat. Get hands-on with our local reptile residents and have an adventure while we search for amphibians. Get ready to explore the wild!

FOREST EXPLORERS

3rd – 5th Grades

August 10 – August 14, Monday - Friday

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Members $325   Non-members $375

What's in the woods? Join us in investigating our 82-acres that includes maritime forest. We will learn what plants make up the forest, search for insects, seek out amphibians, listen for birds, and learn which mammals call it home. Get ready for an adventure!
