Coastal Studies 2019

For students entering grades 3-8

Join the Lloyd Center for an exciting summer outdoors! Animal collection, habitat investigations, and fishing are just a few of the activities offered through the 2019 Summer Programs. In its 38th season, the Lloyd Center’s Summer Programs are designed to give motivated students an opportunity to explore different aspects of environmental science.

All sessions include field study, laboratory work, and fun!

WETLAND WONDERS

3rd – 5th Grades

July 15th – July 19th

Do you love exploring? Grab your boots and join us as we become field biologists for a week! Tromp through muddy salt marshes and discover who’s living in fresh water habitats. Collect, observe, and interact with live animals and help real-life scientists! Go nature!

TIDAL SURGE: THE OCEAN AND CLIMATE CHANGE

4th – 6th Grades

July 22nd – July 26th

Passionate about the ocean and its creatures? Join us for a saltwater-drenched week of field trips, discussions, experiments, and more. Discover the ways in which climate change can affect local coastal habitats… and become part of the solution!

FOREST EXPLORERS - Program full

3rd – 5th Grades

August 5th – August 9th

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

What’s in the woods? Join us in investigating 82-acres of maritime forest. We will learn what plants make up the forest, search for insects, seek out amphibians, listen for birds, and learn which mammals call it home. Get ready for an adventure!

MARINE BIOLOGY

6th – 8th Grades

August 12th – August 16th

9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Come join us as we explore the lush local estuarine and beach ecosystems! Collect live animals from the ocean while beachcombing. Observe various adaptations coastal organisms use to survive and thrive. First-hand observation of creatures and marine fun make this program a splash!
