Lloyd Center 2024 Summer Internships – Environmental Education/Outreach and Piping Plover Research

Environmental Education/Outreach Internships

Do you have a passion for environmental science? Are you experienced or interested in working with youth? The Lloyd Center is in need of Environmental Education/Outreach interns to assist educators in teaching outdoor nature/science-based programs for our summer season.

The Lloyd Center’s educational philosophy is that hands-on learning brings the study of science to life! Additionally, interns assist with various outreach programs and aquaria maintenance. An Environmental Education/Outreach Internship at the Lloyd Center is an excellent way to gain classroom experience, work with live animals, and connect to the local community!

Piping Plover Research Internship

The Lloyd Center for the Environment has an opening for a seasonal shorebird research intern (1) for fieldwork relative to the endangered Piping Plover, on select beaches in Bristol County. Please read our Piping Plover page for further background about this longstanding project.

Summary of field duties:
Interns will assist with monitoring of pairs of plovers/maintenance of fenced refuges, protection of some nests with predator exclosures, data collection regarding all plover nesting activity and factors impacting birds, data entry, and other beach surveys as applicable, as well as educational interaction with beach goers and beach staff during the busy summer season.  An Intern will also have the opportunity to assist with other research work, and with tasks relative to working in a nature center environment.
