Lloyd Center Awarded $10,000 Climate Science Learning Project (CLSP) Grant from Towards Sustainability Foundation

The Lloyd Center has received a $10,000 grant from the Towards Sustainability Foundation in support of the Center’s Climate Science Learning Project (CSLP). Aligned with the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks in science and engineering, the CSLP focuses on the projected effects of climate change on local biodiversity, introducing age-appropriate math, writing, critical thinking and life skills into core climate science lessons.

‘With the support of the Towards Sustainability Foundation, students from underserved, high-need areas will continue to benefit from unique, research-driven science education.’ stated Lloyd Center Executive Director Rachel Stronach. ‘The support of the Foundation is key to our ability to bring high quality educational programs to the surrounding communities.’

The Towards Sustainability Foundation’s generous grant from last year was essential to the successful implementation and continuing development of experiential Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning models associated with the CSLP in high-need public elementary school science classrooms in Fall River and Greater New Bedford.

This year’s grant will allow the Lloyd Center to sustain and further develop the much-needed auxiliary science programming it embodies in exciting new ways, as well as allow the Lloyd Center to expand the program to serve additional classrooms. It will also make possible a two-year pilot program that will introduce interactive, web-based learning tools within the CSLP curricula, ultimately providing wider access to information about the effects of climate change on biodiversity throughout all 100 classrooms directly served by the program.
