Lloyd Center Collaborates in Wade Institute for Science Education’s 2022 STEM Challenge: Extreme Zoo Makeover: A STEM Approach to Habitat Design
The Lloyd Center for the Environment is collaborating with the Wade Institute for Science and the Buttonwood Park Zoo in an inquiry-based engineering design: 2022 STEM Challenge, “Extreme Zoo Makeover: A STEM Approach to Habitat Design.” The Challenge includes an optional professional development workshop for educators, a curriculum guide, and a materials kit (kit for MA schools only).
With Mass STEM Week being held from October 17 – October 21, 2022, an in-person, pre-challenge professional development session took place at the Buttonwood Park Zoo on Saturday, September 17, followed by a second virtual professional development workshop on September 21st and 28th.
The Massachusetts STEM Week is sponsored by the Executive Office of Education and the MA STEM Advisory Council. Our STEM Challenge is funded by a grant from the MA STEM Advisory Council.
Event participants gained hands-on experience with engineering design concepts to work with their students to create a model zoo habitat that meets the animals’ needs during this 2022 MA STEM Week Challenge! The goal of STEM week is to help their students rise to the MA STEM Week theme “See Yourself in STEM” as they use their STEM skills and creativity to meet the “Extreme Zoo Makeover” Challenge.
Registration is still open to participate in the Challenge Week only.
