Lloyd Center for the Environment Awarded $12,100 Grant from Massachusetts Cultural Council

Lloyd Center for the Environment, Inc. has received a grant of $12,100 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), a state agency. This grant was awarded through the MCC’s Cultural Investment Portfolio Grant Program for cultural public programing. State grants are awarded through a competitive process, thereby signifying that the Lloyd Center provides a high level of public value through its programs and community service.
Financial support from the MCC’s Cultural Investment Portfolio Grant Program enables the Lloyd Center to continue providing first-rate environmental research and education services to the schools and residents of southeastern Massachusetts. Of special note is the fact that MCC support makes it possible for the Lloyd Center to provide science programs to public schools which would not otherwise be able to afford them. With municipal and school budgets as tightly restricted as they are today, the Lloyd Center’s ability to provide interactive and effective science teaching has proven to be of great benefit to the cities and towns they serve.
Additional facts of interest: the Lloyd Center has taught over 100,000 students in the Center’s education programs since 2006; has over 25,000 visitors annually from 40 states and 11 countries; has over 30 years of monitoring threatened and endangered species; and over five miles of hiking trails on their 82-acre property free and open to the public 365 days a year from dawn to dusk.
“Not only is the Lloyd Center an incredible destination with its breath-taking views of Buzzards Bay, the Center’s staff develops and implements first rate science programs in local high-needs, under-served schools. The generous grant from the Mass Cultural Council will make a significant difference in the lives of the children that the Lloyd Center aims to reach through their programs,” commented Senator Mark Montigny, longtime supporter of arts and culture funding in the Massachusetts State Senate.
The Mass Cultural Council is a state agency supporting the arts, sciences, and humanities, to improve the quality of life in Massachusetts and its communities. It pursues its mission through a combination of grants, services, and advocacy for nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities, and artists. The agency’s total budget for this fiscal year is $20 million, which includes a state appropriation and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and other sources. Mass Cultural Council also runs the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund in partnership with MassDevelopment.
