Lloyd Center Summer Celebration – 40 Years of Celebrating Science & Education!
On August 1st, the Lloyd Center for the Environment welcomed friends, supporters, and community members to The Cove Restaurant & Marina in Fall River for our 2025 Summer Celebration – carrying on the tradition started by Angelica Lloyd Russell, who hosted the first clambake at Colonial Green’s mansion, and was held in honor of her brother, Demarest Lloyd, Jr., who was killed in action in 1944 at Saipan.
Set against the sweeping views of Mt. Hope Bay, guests arrived in “yacht club casual” attire and were treated to a vibrant evening of live music from The Marlin Trio, hearty hors d’oeuvres, summer cocktails, and warm conversation. This year’s Summer Celebration was a vital fundraiser supporting the Lloyd Center’s hands-on science programs, conservation research, and community outreach.
A special highlight of the evening was a talk by Dr. Kathryn Kavanagh, Lloyd Center Board Member and marine biologist, who delivered an engaging presentation titled “Big Babies! Studies on the Early Life of Humpback Whales.” Her insights into whale development captivated attendees and reminded us of the importance of science-based understanding in protecting marine life.
