A note of thanks to all the volunteers who help the Lloyd Center! Much of our success at the Center can be attributed to our volunteers who so cheerfully and generously give their time and energy.

At this time, we would like to shine a light on a few of our wonderful volunteers:

Two of these volunteers are Kathleen (Kathy) Clear, Clerk on the Lloyd Center Board of Directors, and Sara (Sally) Johnston, Finance Committee member. Kathy and Sally have put in endless hours working diligently to refine the Lloyd Center’s volunteer network.

No strangers to the Center’s volunteer program, Kathy and Sally have been volunteering for years at our biggest annual fundraiser, the Lloyd Center Clambake “Celebrating Science and Education!” as well as the Slocum Challenge Regatta. These events could not take place if not for dedicated volunteers like Kathy and Sally!

We would also like to acknowledge Gregory Clear, who has also been a long-time volunteer at the Lloyd Center.

In addition to chairing the Lloyd Center’s Annual Slocum Challenge Regatta and building a new touch tank for the Center, Greg recently installed a new window and rebuilt the sidewall of the goat shed (adjacent to the home of our resident Red-shouldered Hawk and Screech Owl). Greg also rebuilt the Center’s generator and refuse enclosures.

Another dedicated volunteer, Victor Mailey is a warrior on our trails! Trail work is a great opportunity for those that love stretching their legs, getting out in the fresh air, and doing a bit of physical labor.

Valerie Martin and Suzie Prescott are two of our newest volunteers. Valerie and Suzie joined the Lloyd Center’s volunteer program last month as docents. They have both agreed to work a scheduled shift once a month in the Center’s Visitor Center. Our trained docent volunteers greet visitors and talk to them about our history, mission and ongoing programs. Docents can also become animal husbandry assistants, helping the staff with tank tours and more.

For information on how you can join our docent team or help with volunteering in another way, please contact Jennifer Wimmer at 508-990-0505 x 14.

You may also sign-up online. Volunteering can be engaging and rewarding, and here at the Center we offer a number of volunteer opportunities, ranging from docents to event planning to office work to trail work. Volunteering can be a one-time occasion, a weekly commitment, or monthly commitment. Please join us!
