Volunteers Set Up New StoryWalk® at the Lloyd Center

Michael, Lloyd Center Volunteer

A very meticulous Michael, his parents, and two other volunteers set up the new StoryWalk® last week.

Michael  – a second-grader – read through the entire walk to make sure the pages were in proper order! His attention to detail ensures that visitors will experience the story line accurately.

The StoryWalk® starts from the Yellow Trail in the parking lot; meanders up to the Old Cart Path, the Purple Trail; and ends a short distance from the Pavilion.

Thank you to Michael and his cohorts for working on the winter StoryWalk® Project!

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

This project is a unique and fun way for both children and adults to take part in reading while enjoying the outdoors. A story book is dismantled and each page is laminated. The pages are secured to a wooden post and placed a visible distance apart on a walking trail. As children and adults walk along the trail, they not only enjoy the beauty of nature but also get to share the joy of reading as well.

Here at the Lloyd Center, our stories are usually nature-based.  Our walk starts at the visitors’ parking lot along the Forest Management Trail and continues onto the Old Cart Path Trail. Please join us here at the Lloyd Center for  StoryWalk®.

Let us know what you think or if you have a story suggestion for future walks by emailing Amanda at amanda@lloydcenter.org.  Thank you and enjoy your hike!
